Why Taking a Break from Dating is Absolutely Necessary

taking a break from dating

Sometimes while you’re single and dating, you get lost in the chaos of your dating life. Perhaps you’ve been on a few dates that haven’t worked out very well for you in one way or another. You’re just feeling really frustrated, like you want to bang your head against the wall, or escape on a relaxing vacation somewhere where you can forget about your current reality, and dreadful love life. Dating can be very fun, but most of the time it can feel like unnecessary frustration and work. You just want to feel happy, have a good time, find love. Why does everything feel so difficult? Why is it so difficult to find a compatible partner?

If you are just going out on dates and not having a lot of luck or success, I would suggest taking a break from dating. Time-out is absolutely necessary for multiple reasons, and it’s very beneficial to you. You may think to yourself, “The clock is ticking. I’m not getting any younger. Why would I want to ever take a break from dating?”

Time is ticking away from your existence on this earth every single second, minute, hour, month and year. I’m not trying to make you feel like a doomsday clock, however. You need to relax and approach dating as a marathon, and not a 40-yard dash. Think about that previous relationship that you happened to rush into that lead to a break-up or divorce. How did that relationship work out for you? Do I have your attention now? Let’s examine why taking a break from dating is absolutely necessary.

You’ve lost your focus

Losing your focus is common with dating. You may just be dating for the wrong reasons. Maybe you’re just filling a void in your life, or trying to fix the loneliness with a date with someone who is wrong for you. Maybe you’ve let your guard down, or you’re getting sloppy with your dating selections, and you’re just rushing into things. Taking a dating break will enhance your focus, and when you’re seeing clearer, you will inevitably make better dating decisions. You can learn to ‘stick to your guns’, and start dating the woman that you truly desire, and who is the right fit for you!

The last few dates were not the results that you desired, so you need to concentrate, relax, and maintain your focus on your dating expectations. Taking a break from dating sites will also save you some extra money. Maybe you take a couple of months or a few months off. Whatever you need to do. After you take a break, you will feel reenergised, fresh, and refocused to start looking for dates again.

You’re getting too discouraged

I tend to wear my emotions ‘on my sleeve’ so to speak. So while I’m feeling frustrated or discouraged, other people can usually read my emotions, if they have an emotional intelligence IQ. Maybe while I’m discouraged, it ends up spilling over into my dates. Maybe being frustrated, discouraged, or disappointed with my last few dates has caused me to feel a bit hopeless with my next dating prospects. If you’re feeling too discouraged or disappointed, take a break. You probably need it. You’re like a pitcher on the baseball mound that is tired from throwing all of those fast balls and curve balls, and you need to go sit on the bench for a while and drink some Gatorade. You’re feeling exhausted and spent.

If you’ve ever watched basketball, you will see teams that will go on runs and score a lot of points, get hot, and then they may fall behind by 10 or 20 points. Taking a time-out is usually beneficial for the team, because the coach may see that he needs to make a few tactful substitutions, set-up and plan some plays to spark another run, or give the team an emotional speech during the time-out to inspire them and get them refocused on the task at hand (which happens to be winning the ball game). If you’re in it to win it, you will need to take time-outs as well. Take a break, and then jump back in when you feel like you’re ready to date again. No one enjoys dating while they’re feeling discouraged or hopeless.

You’re tired of having no success

Online dating sites are very convenient, and they should make our love lives easier. You don’t really have to bother meeting women in reality. You can just go fish for them on a dating site — fairly easy stuff. The only problem is that you may get tired of certain aspects on dating sites, like paying monthly membership for no successful results. You may get tired of seeing that woman stalking you that you’re not attracted to. Or you may also get frustrated after sending some messages out to women of interest, only to get nothing.

If you’re not getting any positive results and you’re feeling really aggravated after replying to that next fake attractive woman profile or spammer, take a break from it. Go take a walk in the sunshine, or go for a hike and relax. You don’t need a woman to complete you, if you’re already enjoying your life and setting goals for yourself. You just want someone special eventually to share your life with.

I often sign up for a few months or so. If I’m just feeling frustrated with the same results and the realistic drudgery from online dating, I’ll take a few months off. Why not? Then I won’t have to log into the dating site and get that feeling of exasperation (as I facepalm) when reality isn’t bending to my desires! Yes, I know that I want to bend the paradigm shift in my direction. But I need a little assistance as well. In fact, never mind the paradigm shift for now. I think that I’ll just break it. Take a break from online dating so that I’m not face-palming and feeling frustrated anymore.

These are some of the reasons why taking a break from dating is absolutely necessary for your survival, health, well being, and sanity. Give yourself a chance to clear your head, refocus, and recommit yourself to having fun and dating for good times and positive results. Life is short, and you need to embrace dating and look forward to it. If it’s just leading to anxiety, disappointment, depression, and frustration, you know that it’s time to pull away from the dating game. If you don’t take breaks in life, you will suffer from exhaustion or failure. Taking a dating break will make you feel re-energised. It will refresh you, and make you ready and willing to go after your dream girl that you desire.
